1- Hi-fin sunset variatus
In early 2012, I acquired healthy stock of hifin variatus from a gentleman in California. Since then, I have diligently worked on improving both color pattern and dorsal hi-fin development.
Body: yellow to gold – deep red for the males from the anterior part of the body to the tip of the caudal.
Caudal: red
Dorsal: yellow to gold
Eyes: non-albino
2- Hi-fin "Hawaiian" variatus
This strain always fascinated me since the first time I laid my eyes on photos of splendid specimens in Dr. Norton's books and some TFH's articles.
Body: metallic black with yellow undertone
Caudal: red
Dorsal: preferably yellow
Eyes: non-albino
3- Hi-fin red variatus
This color pattern is an off-shoot of my sunset line that showed up in 2013. I have been trying to isolate the color pattern as the red is very intense, a thing I have never seen on variatus platies. The hifin dorsal needs to be worked on, as currently that strain shows passable hifin development.
